Abstract

This article aims to be an approach to the topic of women´s access to education in Mexico, exploring the relationship between this phenomenon, the social imaginary and gender. Early Modernity creates a gender imaginary that anchors the identity of more woman to the image of the mother wife, the domestic woman, and the mother of de family. Access to formal education for woman in Mexico in the 19th century is anchored to this imaginary.
